Halums shines in top JUCO basketball showcase

FULTON, Miss. - Sophomore guard Brian Halums shined amongst some of the nation's top junior and community college talent over the weekend in the All-American JUCO Showcase Elite 80 East in Suwanee, Georgia.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Hollandale native averaged 11.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in three games to earn a spot amongst the Top 20 players in the showcase and be selected to participate in Sunday's All-Star game. Halums continued to impress scouts by scoring 15 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists in the All-Star game.

Considered one of the top JUCO events in the country, the All-American JUCO Showcase Elite 80 is an invite-only event for the nation's best junior and community college players who are entering their sophomore year.

Halums has been invited to participate in the Mullen's Junior College Top 100 Camp July 22-23 in Wichita, Kansas.

As a freshman, Halums led the Indians in scoring with 17.3 points, rebounding with 7.5 boards, and blocked shots with 1.5 blocks per game. He also led the team in three-point shooting, connecting on 44.8 percent of his attempts from beyond the arch, while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor.

Halums was named to the NJCAA Region 23 and MACJC All-State teams.
