FULTON, Miss. – In the first regular season National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, the ICC softball team comes in at No. 11.
The Indians (13-3, 4-0 MACJC) were snubbed in the NJCAA Preseason Poll despite being ranked sixth in the final poll of 2017, but a strong start to the 2018 campaign has returned the tribe to the Top 20.
After winning five of their last six, the Indians have started conference play perfect in the win column, but four other MACJC squads and an upcoming non-conference opponent also grace this week's poll.
Jones County Junior College leads the MACJC teams in the poll ranked No. 1, followed by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at No. 7 and East Central Community College at No. 8. ICC rival Northeast Mississippi Community College, swept by the Indians to open MACJC play on Mar. 2, round out the conference teams ranked at No. 17.
The four MACJC teams are joined in the poll by fellow NJCAA Region 23 team LSU-Eunice which fell from No. 1 in the preseason poll to No. 4.
If conference play weren't tough enough, the Indians will host No. 2 Des Moines Area Monday (Mar. 12) for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m., but the tribe will have its hands full this week before looking ahead.
The Indians are scheduled to play Northwest Mississippi Community College today (Wednesday) and then host No. 8 East Central on Friday (Mar. 9) at 2 p.m., before wrapping up the week on Saturday with a road doubleheader at Bevill State Community College (Ala.).
