Reid Kent has been named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-American Honorable Mention.
FULTON, Miss. – Reid Kent's season was hard to miss.
The sophomore shortstop from Oxford led Itawamba Community College in nearly every major offensive category, put his name in the program's modern-day record book and is now an All-American.
Kent has been named National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-American Honorable Mention, the organization announced Wednesday.
He led the Indians with 18 home runs and 70 RBI while batting .411. He also finished with 85 hits, 77 runs scored, 156 total bases and 35 extra-base hits.
"Reid is a phenomenal player and a great kid," ICC head coach Slater Lott said. "He deserves this honor. The rest of the country now knows what we've known about him all along. He's one of the best players in the country. One of the best to ever play at ICC and now etched into another elite category. We are certainly proud to call him an Indian."
Kent was a steady presence in ICC's lineup throughout the season. One of his top performances came in a 15-11 win over Northeast on April 14, when he went 4-for-5 with four RBI.
He also earned First Team All-MACCC honors after helping the Indians finish 33-19 overall and 19-9 in conference play. ICC advanced to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament and climbed as high as No. 21 in the NJCAA Division II Baseball Rankings during Lott's first season as head coach.
Kent's production also placed him at the top of ICC's modern-day record book.
He holds modern-day single-season marks with 85 hits, 70 RBI, 77 runs scored and 18 home runs. He also totaled 156 bases and 35 extra-base hits.
Kent has signed to continue his academic and athletic career at McNeese State University next spring.
