FULTON, MS -- Itawamba Community College jumped into the nation's Top 10 when the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its latest football poll on Tuesday.
The Indians moved to No. 9 after defeating Mississippi Delta Community College (0-3; 0-1) 23-13 to move to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the MACJC North Division.
"We are honored to be recognized as one of the nation's top teams," said ICC head football coach Jon Williams. "Not only is it an honor for this year's team, but it's also an honor for the players that came before them that bought in and helped build the program to this level."
ICC travels to Goodman Thursday night to take on the Holmes Community College Bulldogs (0-3;0-1 MACJC North).
Last season, the Bulldogs picked up a controversial 14-12 after a forward pass was ruled a lateral and resulted in the eventual game-winning fumble return for a touchdown to snap the Indians' three-game win streak.
"We can't worry about last season," said Williams. "We have to focus on getting ready for a very good football team that is extremely hungry for a win. Their 0-3 record is very deceiving until you see they have played two of the nation's Top 20 teams; including the overall No. 1 team in Gulf Coast."
ICC stayed at the No. 12 spot in this week's JCGridiron.com JUCO football poll.
The game will be broadcasted on WAFM 95.7 FM (Amory) and streamed live on LetsGoICC.com starting with the Davis Ford Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m.
