Former Indians earn preseason honors at the next level
Cortez Davis and Malik Honeycutt earn preseason conference honors.
Fulton, Miss. - A pair of former ICC Football standouts have earned conference preseason honors at the next level. Hawaii defensive back Cortez Davis has been named Preseason All-Mountain West and Murray State wide receiver Malik Honeycutt was named Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference.
Davis, who played for Coach Sean Cannon in 2018, is in his third season with the Warriors and is coming off a strong 2020 season that earn him Second-Team All Mountain West postseason honors. He started in eight games, was the team's shutdown corner and recorded 29 tackles. In 2019, Davis played in all 15 games and started 13.
While leading the team with 13 pass breakups. He earned All-Mountain West honorable mention with 53 tackles and a 43 yard interception return for a touchdown.
In his one season at ICC, Davis recorded 59 tackles in nine games and earned First-Team All-Conference honors.
Honeycutt, who spent the 2017 season in Fulton, was named to the Preseason All-OVC team for the second consecutive year. The wide receiver handles punts for the Racers and that is the position that earned him the preseason honor this year. He played in seven games in 2020 and returned 11 punts for 123 yard, while grabbing 11 catches for 180 yards.
In his first season at Murray State, Honeycutt was name First-Team All-American kick returner by HERO Sports and was First-Team All-OVC. That season he led the Racers with 29 catches for 477 yards and four touchdown and recorded two touchdowns on special teams.
At ICC, Honeycutt had 35 catches for 608 yards in nine games with six touchdowns and helped the Indians to a Co-North Division Championship.
