Fulton, Miss. – The Indians rebounded from a tough 3-2 season opening loss to No. 9 Jones with a big 3-0 shutout victory over Southwest Wednesday.
Tyrique Davis (Alabaster, Ala.) netted the Indians first goal of the contest at the 23rd minute and Wes Rollins (Columbus) extended the lead to 2-0 early in the second half.
Off a free kick at the 73rd minute, Ruben Perez (Ripley) found the back of the net for the game's final goal. The three goals were the first of the season for each of the Indians.
Corbin Martin (Amory) and Brandon Tita-nwa (Olive Branch) combined for six saves to preserve the shutout win. Jalin Boyd (Tupelo) and Davis picked up assists in the win.
The Indians (1-1) will travel to Pearl River Friday for their final non-division match as they open North Division play next Monday at Hinds. Game time from Poplarville Friday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and will be available on PRCCMedia.com/Gold
