Fulton, Miss. – In the final tune-up game before conference play, the Itawamba Community College men's soccer team went to extra time twice before ending in a 1-1 draw with Meridian Community College Tuesday.
The Indians (3-1-1) controlled the game for most of the contest and took a 1-0 lead right before the break as Billy Gipp (London, England) scored on a penalty kick at the 42nd minute after Anthony Jones (Oxford) was fouled in the box.
Christian Mahan (Southaven) and Eric Velazquez (Tupelo) split time in net and made big saves on several Eagle chances, but at the 55th minute, the Eagles were able to net the equalizer.
In the final minutes of regulation and for most of both overtime periods, the Indians had chances to net the golden goal, but were unable to put it home, ending the contest in a draw.
Friday, the Indians will open MACCC play when they host Southwest Mississippi Community College with opening kick scheduled for 4 p.m. in Fulton.
