Indians Slide to No. 13 Spot in NJCAA Poll
The Itawamba Community College softball team dropped to No. 13 in this week’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Top 25 poll.
FULTON, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College softball team dropped to No. 13 in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Top 25 poll, the NJCAA announced Monday.
The Indians, who were ranked 11th in last week's poll, are coming off a week that featured a pair of conference splits. ICC opened the week at Northwest, falling 2-1 in game one before bouncing back with a 3-1 victory in game two on Wednesday.
In Saturday's doubleheader against No. 15 Hinds, the Indians dropped a hard-fought game one, 5-4, in 11 innings, but responded with a 4-2 win in game two to secure the split.
AB Marlar leads the Indians at the plate with a .461 batting average, while Victoria Fields follows at .361. Taylar Shands paces the team with 31 runs batted in, and Marlar also leads with 10 home runs on the season.
In the circle, Ramsey Montgomery boasts a 1.41 earned run average, while Lizzie Meeks holds a 2.57 ERA. Montgomery and Meeks are tied for the team lead with nine wins each. Montgomery currently has 143 strikeouts on the season, which leads the nation.
The 13th-ranked Indians will be back in action on Saturday, March 28, when they travel to Summit for a doubleheader against Southwest, starting at 1 p.m.
