FULTON, MS – The Lady Indians opened North Division play with a crucial win over rival Northeast Mississippi Community College on Thursday.
Leading 33-32 at halftime, the Lady Indians (5-3, 1-0 MACJC North) opened the second half on a 14-0 run to pull away from the Lady Tigers (3-4, 0-1 MACJC North) for an 80-55 victory.
"Northeast did a really good job with their man-to-man defense to slow us down in the first half," said ICC head coach Nanci Gray. "The girls came out in the second half determined to win the game and really stepped their game up defensively to help us pull away for the win."
Sophomore guard Ty-Nita Baker (Houston) paced the Lady Indians with 21 points in the win.
"We had a lot of people step up," said Baker. "We just fought together as a team to be able to come out with the win."
Baker is tied for sixth in the nation averaging 21.5 points per game for the Lady Indians.
Three other Lady Indians scored in double figures, including a collegiate career-high 17 points from freshman Latoya Collins (Jackson).
"She is someone that has to guarded every night when she's on the floor and makes things happen on defense," Gray said of Collins. "We feel that she is going to be playing a substantial role for us with the more experience she gets."
Sophomore Ayanna Lynn (Gentry) added 15 and freshman LyTia Coleman (Memphis, TN) had 12 in the win.
