Lady Indians' comeback falls just short at No. 17 Shelton State

TUSCALOOSA, AL – The Lady Indians ran out of time in their big second half comeback, falling 69-68 to No. 17 Shelton State.
In their first meeting this season, the Lady Indians (5-2) handed the Lady Bucs their first and now only loss of the season 84-66. However, it's always a different game when a team hits the road. On their home floor, the Lady Bucs (6-1) held a 39-33 lead at halftime, and extended it to as many as 12-points in the second half.
The Lady Indians played with determination after halftime mounting a comeback led by Zierra Long (Tupelo) and Julianna Garner (New Albany). At the 10:33 mark, the Lady Indians took a 1-point, 50-49, lead on a Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch) offensive rebound and put back. Garner followed with a quick five points to extend the Lady Indians lead.
It was a back-and-forth battle with the lead changing hands several times in the closing minutes. The Lady Indians had a chance in the final seconds but a contested long-range jumper was off target, giving the Lady Bucs the 69-68 win.
Jeronia Allen (Minden, LA) led the Lady Indians with 22-points, while Jayla Chills (Ripley) and Kneeland each added 13-points.
The Lady Indians will host Coahoma Thursday night for their first North Division game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
