Big second half propels Lady Indians to victory over Lawson State

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Lady Indians trailed Lawson State by as much as 13-points, but put together a comeback to pick up the 78-67 win on Saturday.
It was a struggle to get anything to fall in the first half for the Lady Indians as they shot 28.6 percent from the floor. At halftime, the Lady Indians (9-2, 2-0) trailed 38-29, and Lawson State extended their lead to 44-31 over the first five minutes of the half.
Over the next ten minutes, the Lady Indians rallied to pull within 4-points, and tied the game on a run led by Lanikki McMillian (Pontotoc) and Alontra Tucker (Lamar). The duo accounted for 19-points during the big second half comeback that was capped off by Jayla Chills (Ripley) hitting two free throws to give the Lady Indians the lead.
It was back-and-forth battle with lead changing hands a couple of times before the Lady Indians went on a late run that propelled them to the 78-67 victory win, closing out the first half of the season on a four game win streak.
Chills led the Lady Indians with 24-points, followed by Tucker with 12-points and McMillian who chipped in 10-points.
The Lady Indians are on a break for the holidays but will return to action when they travel to Jones January 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
