FULTON, MS - Parity was the theme of the MACJC regular season and it continued to be the theme in the opening round of the MACJC Basketball Tournament on Monday.
Only on higher seed survived and advanced out of the Quarterfinals of the tournament.
Southwest 86, Northwest 80 [Box Score]
Rodrick Sikes scored 27 points and Terrell Miller added 23 in the third-seeded Southwest Bears' (15-8) 86-80 win over the second-seeded Northwest Rangers (16-8) in the opening game of the tournament.
Seth LeDay scored a game-high 28 points for the Rangers.
East Mississippi 80, Pearl River 73 [Box Score]
East Mississippi's (18-6) Juan Davis, Jr. tossed in a team-high 18 points to pace five different players scoring in double figures in the fourth-seeded Lions' 80-73 win over the South's top-seeded Pearl River Wildcats (16-8).
Darrlyn Willis led Pearl River with 29 points in the loss.
Gulf Coast 100, Holmes 88 [Box Score]
No. 4 seeded Gulf Coast Bulldogs (19-5) kept the upsets rolling with a 100-88 win over the Holmes Bulldogs (18-6), who entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed out of the North.
Davion Cole-Johnson scored a team-high 25 with Deshawn Jones adding 23 points for Gulf Coast. Holmes' Daryl Macon led all scorers with 33 points, including connecting on 14-of-16 from the charity stripe.
Jones County 67, Northeast 63 [Box Score]
Second-seeded Jones County Bobcats (16-6) was the only higher-seeded team to survive the opening round of the tournament with a 67-63 win over No. 3 seed Northeast Tigers (15-9).
Rickey Holden led the Bobcats with 17 points while Wesley Harris scored a game-high 22 points for the Tigers.
