FULTON, MS – The Lady Indians received the No. 21 seed in the 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Women's Basketball National Tournament, presented by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, announced via Twitter from the national office on Monday.
The Lady Indians (23-6) will face No. 12 seed Blinn Community College (25-8) on Monday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. at the Ripp Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas.
Blinn, ranked 13th nationally, qualified for nationals after winning the Region 14 championship, 61-44, over San Jacinto-North. The Lady Buccaneers are led in scoring by Ebony Parker, who scores 17.8 points per game, with Ekiya Gray and Jeliah Preston both averaging just over 13 points a game.
They are coached by Jeff Jenkins, who is in his 14th season in Texas, and he is assisted by Brateicka Mock.
The winner of Monday's game will face the No. 5 seed and fifth-ranked College of Southern Idaho at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16.
ICC earned it's straight-straight trip to nationals with a 68-64 win over Copiah-Lincoln Community College (23-5) in the NJCAA Region 23 Championship game Saturday night at Mississippi College.
In last year's national tournament in Salina, Kansas, the Lady Indians were the No. 20 seed and were defeated by No. 13 seed and eighteenth-ranked Wabash Valley College, who advanced to the Sweet 16 of the tournament.
The 2016 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament will be streamed live March 14-19 exclusively on NJCAATV.com.
Top-ranked Gulf Coast State College (FL) earned the tournament's overall No. 1 seed.
