FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College guard Jestiny Dixon has signed to continue her basketball career at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La.
The Foley, Ala. native led the Lady Indians with 14.1 points per game, was second on the team with 7.6 rebounds and shot 44 percent from the floor. She posted a career-high 30-point performance in ICC's 83-65 win over Mississippi Delta to secure the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament title.
When talking about her time at ICC, Dixon looked back on the memories she made over the past two years and expressed how the college has prepared her for the next level.
"I had a blast. I recommend anybody to come to this school," Dixon said. "It's such a good environment filled with good people. If it was a four-year, I definitely would have done all four years."
Dixon earned MACCC Player of the Week three times throughout the season, was named to the Region 23 All-Tournament Team, and received All-MACCC First Team recognition.
ICC head women's basketball coach Robin Porter spoke highly of Dixon and her contributions to the program for the past two seasons.
"Jestiny's two years here have been wonderful," Porter said. "She's everywhere on the court. You have to guard her and she can play defense. So her going to Southern, I can't wait to see what she'll contribute to them. Because this year, she had a couple of triple-doubles, a lot of double-doubles; the kid is just tenacious and does not stop."
Dixon joins the Lady Jaguars that are a member of both the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I.
