FULTON, Miss. – Zion Harvey has not played a game for Itawamba Community College yet, but her name is already being put in front of college coaches on a national stage.
Harvey, a 5-foot-6 guard from Vicksburg, will represent the ICC women's basketball program at the Women's JUCO Top 40 Showcase, hosted by Area Codes Basketball, July 10 and 11 at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas.
The NCAA-certified event is built around exposure. It is limited to 40 players, including incoming junior college freshmen, rising sophomores and unsigned junior college sophomores. Division I coaches are scheduled to attend, along with Division II, Division III, NAIA coaches, national scouting services and media.
The Lady Indians are adding a guard who already has proven production at the junior college level and now has another chance to show her game against some of the top JUCO talent in the country.
Harvey transferred to Fulton from Holmes Community College after a freshman season where she led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring, assists and steals. She played in 26 games with 24 starts and averaged 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 77.6 percent from the free throw line.
Each player at the showcase will participate in four games, including an All-Star Game. For Harvey, it is a chance to compete, be evaluated and build momentum before beginning her ICC career.
