Indians down Southwest in conference opener, 4-2

Fulton, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College men's soccer team opened conference play with a 4-2 win over Southwest Mississippi Community College Friday.
It was an intense battle from the opening kick, and Owen Anforth (Burnley, England) quickly gave the Indians (4-2-1, 1-0 MACCC) an early 1-0 advantage scoring off a corner kick from Billy Gipp (London, England).
Southwest answered at the 20th minute to tie the contest, but Anforth sent the ball to back of the net off an throw in from Reed Conerly (Tupelo) for his second of the contest at the 21st minute.
Aiden Belk (Oxford) quickly extended the Indians' lead to 3-1 with his goal five minutes later.
The Indians held the 3-1 lead through halftime, but southwest was able to cut the lead to one, 3-2, at the 69th minute.
Late in the game, the Indians benefited from an own goal after Anthony Jones (Oxford) sent a strike across the field that deflected off a Southwest defender and into the net, giving the Indians the 4-2 lead and win.
Next up for the Indians is the first conference road test and the team's second road game of the season. Friday, the Indians will face Co-Lin at 1 p.m. in Wesson.
