Indians and Meridian end in scoreless draw
For the second time this season, Itawamba Community College men’s soccer and Meridian Community College ended in a draw.
Meridian, Miss. – For the second time this season, Itawamba Community College men's soccer and Meridian Community College ended in a draw.
In their first meeting in Fulton, the Indians (5-2-2, 2-1-1 MACCC) and Eagles ended in a 1-1 tie, but Friday, neither team found the back of the net and the game ended in a scoreless draw.
The lack of scoring wasn't due to the lack of opportunities as Gage Lashlee (Olive Branch) just missed a goal by a few inches as he hit the cross bar off a free kick at the 26th minute.
A few minutes later, Christian Holman (Olive Branch) sent a shot passed the keeper but hit off the post to keep the game scoreless.
With 13 minutes left in regulation, the Indians had two quick shots on goal, but the Meridian keeper was able to knock them away.
As the game moved to overtime and then the second overtime, neither team had many chances, but in the final two minutes of double overtime, the Indians had a free kick just outside the box.
The Indians didn't capitalize on the free kick, but in the final minute JB Purvis (Byhalia) put one final shot on net, but Meridian was able to make the save to end the game in a draw.
Freshman keeper Christian Mahan (Southaven) made six saves for the Indians.
The Indians will travel to Pearl River Community College Tuesday for another conference showdown.
Opening kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Poplarville and will be available on prccmedia.com/gold. Those planning to make the trip must purchase a ticket in advance at prccathletics.com/tickets.
