Meeks Controls No. 12 Showdown as Indians Beats Chattanooga State
The NJCAA Division II No. 12 Indians knocked off the NJCAA Division I No. 12 Tigers from Chattanooga State 4-1 in Game 3 of JUCO Turf Wars, striking first, tacking on runs in key spots and riding Lizzie Meeks the rest of the way.
GARDENDALE, Ala. - The NJCAA Division II No. 12 Indians knocked off the NJCAA Division I No. 12 Tigers from Chattanooga State 4-1 in Game 3 of JUCO Turf Wars, striking first, tacking on runs in key spots and riding Lizzie Meeks the rest of the way.
ICC grabbed the first punch in the bottom of the first. Victoria Fields came home on a Tigers error, and the Indians had a 1-0 lead without needing the big swing.
The second inning brought more pressure and more payoff. Taylar Shands doubled, then scored on an error to make it 2-0. Alana Dossey moved up and scored on a Victoria Fields groundout, stretching the margin to 3-0 and putting Chattanooga State in chase mode early.
The cleanest swing of the game came in the fifth. Anna Thomas Luke opened the inning with a solo homer to center, a separator that pushed the lead to 4-0.
Chattanooga State got a run back in the sixth, but that was the only opening the Tigers found. ICC answered with a three-up, three-down top of the seventh to finish it clean.
Meeks earned the win, going the distance while allowing one run on three hits, walking two and striking out six. AB Marlar, Fields, Dossey, Luke and Shands each recorded a hit as the Indians kept the pressure steady and finished the No. 12 showdown with a statement win.
