No. 14 Indians Hold Off East Central in Opener, Settle for Split
The No. 14 Indians split its Sophomore Day doubleheader with East Central, winning Game 1 9-6 before dropping Game 2 2-1.
FULTON, Miss. - The No. 14 Indians split its Sophomore Day doubleheader with East Central, winning Game 1 9-6 before dropping Game 2 2-1.
Game 1: No. 14 Indians 9, East Central 6
East Central scored twice in the first, but ICC answered in the bottom half.
Maddie Porter singled home Alana Dossey to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Indians moved in front in the fourth. Ella Duhon singled to center to score AB Marlar and tie the game at 2-2. Later in the inning, Duhon came home on a wild pitch during Kaylin Lynch's at-bat to give ICC a 3-2 lead.
ICC broke the game open in the sixth.
Neely Hodum doubled to center to score Marlar and Duhon. Morgan Green followed with an RBI single to bring home Zoe Goodman. Emarie Boddie then hit a three-run home run to left to push the lead to 9-2.
East Central scored four runs late, but ICC held on for the win.
Ramsey Montgomery threw a complete game for the Indians. She allowed three hits and three runs, two earned, struck out eight and walked five.
Game 2: East Central 2, No. 14 Indians 1
East Central took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single.
ICC tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Ann Thomas Luke hit a solo home run to center.
East Central answered in the top of the fifth to retake the lead at 2-1.
Rain moved through the area and the game was later called after umpires ruled the field unplayable. With the score reverting back after five innings, East Central was awarded the win.
