This tremendous day for Lady Indians basketball when you look at what we signed prior to today is an outstanding list, but to top it off with an athlete the caliber of Jayla has us really excited about next season - Coach Nanci Gray.

The ICC women's basketball team will host open tryouts for the 2013-14 season on Monday, April 15th starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Davis Event Center
“These girls represented ICC, the state of Mississippi and themselves well today,” said ICC head coach Nanci Gray. “I am extremely proud of the girls. We asked them to leave it all on the floor… that’s exactly what they did and there is no reason for any of them to hang their heads after this loss. There were some people that thought we had no business being here, but they can’t think that any more after today.”
Ty-Nita Baker (Houston) and Ayanna Lynn (Gentry) were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 Tournament Team after helping lead the Lady Indians to the program's second-ever region championship.
Itawamba Community College sophomore guard Ty-Nita Baker (Houston) was named First-Team Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State and was selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 team on Monday.
The Lady Indians (19-9) will be the 22nd seed in the 24-team field and will face 11th seeded Northwest Florida State Lady Raiders (24-4) at noon on Tuesday, March 19 at the Salina Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas.
Former Lady Indians Ebony Williams (Calhoun City) turned Mississippi College Lady Choctaw earned First-Team American Southwest Conference (ASC) All-East Division on honors.
The Itawamba Community College women’s basketball team will enter the MACJC State Basketball Tournament as the No. 2 seed from the North and will face the Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears Monday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS.
This year, the defending state champion Lady Indians will recognize five players, Ty-nita Baker of Houston, Regina Barker of Aberdeen, Jasmine Hampton of Bruce, Ayanna Lynn of Indianola and Jackson’s Ashley Wiley.
Sophomore Jasmine Hampton (Bruce) had a career-night scoring 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to help the Lady Indians knock off Holmes 68-52 on Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
“Give Northwest credit,” Gray commented. “They did a great job getting the ball in the paint and taking a lot more high-percentage shots than we did and that was the difference in the game. They had a great game plan and executed it really well against us.”
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, is a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the first against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
